No School for Sioux Falls School District Wednesday, Feb 22, 2023 due to winter weather.

Kids Care this month was on February 17. Students were divided out and went to five off site organizations this month. Those places included LifeScape, the Banquet, Ronald McDonald House, local daycare, and downtown library. Duties assigned were cleaning toys/books/shelves, preparing the banquet hall for guests, and playing games with residents and kids. Some students stayed onsite to make blankets for those in need. Thanks Kristen Benidt for organizing these activities and to the parents who drove us!

Valentine's Day parties were a huge hit in all classrooms on Feb. 14! Thank you to all of our room parents for their help organizing all of the celebrations throughout the year and the other parents who help in any way!

Our Soaring Eagles from the week of February 13-17! Nice work! Keep being responsible, respectful, and safe!

Parents of teens and preteens won't want to miss this month's featured Family Forum topic. Vaping is on the rise among young people and carries some costly concerns. Join us Tuesday, Feb 21 at 6pm at sf.k12.sd.us, click Students & Families, then Counseling or watch for the link.

For the past two weeks leading up to the Super Bowl, Miss Leloux's third graders worked extremely hard on their "Super Reader Challenge"! Each student was divided into two teams, Eagles and Chiefs, and then could bring in a football that indicated they read for 30 minutes outside of school. Each football allowed their team to move 10 yards on our field to try to score touchdowns!! One student brought in 50 footballs!! Wow! Great effort! Students voted on the MVP of their team and won individual and team prizes for their efforts. In the end, the Chiefs were victorious with the score 105-49. Super Bowl Week features fun football spelling words, learning about the Star Spangled Banner, Roman Numerals, football math games, an escape room, and ended with a Tailgate Party! Thank you third graders for working extremely hard! Thank you to the parents who donated to their party!

Thank you to all who have donated a book to the library in honor of their child's birthday! We have had 5 donations so far this year. Your generosity is amazing! Thank you for supporting your student's education through literature!

Every day is a GREAT day in SFSD classrooms! Thursday was extra special as Supt. Stavem and Board Member Marc Murren surprised six educators by naming them finalists for the Dr. John W. Harris Teacher of the Year Award! Please join us in congratulating these amazing educators!

It's School Counselor's Week and we are so thankful for our counselor, Mrs. Sweeter!! The kids adore her and love when she comes in to give her Guidance lessons! Feeling puzzled? Mrs. Sweeter can help! Her kindness and patience with the kiddos makes her a great resource to turn to in times of need. The students and staff showed their appreciation with these signed puzzle pieces! Thank you for all you do!

Don't forget to check out the Book Fair and Spirit Wear tonight in the gym! Thank you to Celeste Fergen and Donna Stolz for organizing these things! Thanks, families, for the support!

We had our first whole school choreography practice with Mary Pat Norgaard today in the gym for the musical!! It is so fun to see how much they are improving each week!
